Your images never leave your device
Lean Image does all of its work inside your browser. There is no upload, no server-side processing, and no copy of your images anywhere but on your own machine.
The short version: Lean Image is a tool that runs entirely in your browser. Your images are processed on your device and are never sent to us or anyone else. We don't have accounts, we don't use tracking or advertising cookies, and we don't run analytics.
What stays on your device
When you add an image — by dragging it in, pasting it, or choosing a file — it is read directly into your browser's memory. All compression, resizing, cropping, and format conversion happens locally, and the optimized result is offered to you as a normal download. When you close or refresh the tab, those images are gone from memory. We never receive them.
What we do not do
- No uploads. Your images are not transmitted to any server.
- No server-side storage. We have no database of your images because we never receive them.
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile to maintain.
- No tracking or advertising cookies. We don't profile you or sell data.
- No analytics. We don't run third-party analytics or behavior tracking scripts.
- No third-party sharing. There is no image data to share.
The only settings we remember
To make the tool convenient, your preferences (such as output format, quality, and resize defaults) are saved in your browser's localStorage on your own device. This data never leaves your browser, contains no image data and no personal information, and you can clear it any time through your browser settings.
The feedback form
There is exactly one exception to "nothing leaves your browser", and it is worth stating plainly. The Feedback button in the header opens a form, and submitting it sends what you typed — the kind of request, the title, the description, and an email address if you chose to give one — to us so that we can read it.
Nothing else travels with it. No image, no filename, no page you were on, and no detail about your browser or device. The message is delivered as an email, through our email provider, to a mailbox we own; an address you supply is used only to reply to you and is never added to any list. If you would rather not use the form,email us directly — it reaches the same place.
About the image codecs
Some conversions (notably AVIF) use a WebAssembly codec. That small code module is downloaded from Lean Image's own domain to run the encoder locally in your browser, exactly like the rest of the page's code. It is the program that does the work — your images themselves are still never sent anywhere.
Hosting and server logs
The Lean Image website is delivered as static files by a hosting/CDN provider (Cloudflare). Like any website, the provider may process standard technical request information — such as your IP address and browser type — for the sole purpose of delivering the page and protecting against abuse. This is ordinary web infrastructure and is not connected to your images, which are never part of any request.
Children's privacy
Lean Image is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date below. Because the tool's privacy model is fundamental to how it's built, we don't expect the core promise — that your images stay on your device — to ever change.
