Lean Image compresses, resizes, crops, and converts images entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, never stored, and never seen by anyone but you.
Why we built it
Almost every "free online image compressor" works the same way: you hand over your photos, they get uploaded to someone else's server, processed there, and sent back. You rarely know how long those files are kept, who can access them, or what else happens to them along the way.
For a quick screenshot that might be fine. For product mockups, client work, ID scans, medical images, or personal photos, it isn't. Optimizing an image shouldn't mean trusting a stranger's server with it.
Lean Image was built on a simple idea: modern browsers are powerful enough to do all of this themselves. So we made a tool that does — fast, polished, and completely private. Nothing to upload, nothing to wait for, nothing left behind.
How it's different
When you drop an image into Lean Image, the work happens right on your device using your browser's built-in image engine and a WebAssembly encoder. The pixels are decoded, resized, cropped, and re-encoded in memory, and the optimized file is handed straight back to you for download.
There is no upload step because there is no server to upload to. That's also why it feels instant — you're never waiting on a network round-trip, and you can optimize a whole batch as fast as your machine can process it.

What it does
Lean Image converts between JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, and GIF, and reads even more formats on the way in. You can set quality, target an exact file size, resize with presets or custom dimensions, crop to any aspect ratio, and process many images at once — then download them individually or as a ZIP.
